Summary
Objective.
To determine prevalence, type of caesereans according to Robson classification and to identify indications in each group.
Methods.
In a retrospective study, 933 medical records of cesarized women were studied in 3 maternal hospitals ( Kinshasa University Hospital, Provincial General Hospital of Kinshasa and center of Mother and Child of Bumbu), from January 1st to December 31st , 2013. Parameters of interests were : age, marital status, parity, fetal presentation, gestational age, and uterine scar, indication of the current caesarean, type of caesarean ( elective or emergency). Chi square and Student tests were used to compare proportions and means as appropriated.
Results.
The frequency of caesareans in maternal hospitals was 31.2% mostly prevalence in group 1,3,5 and 10 according to Roberson. Their median age was of 30.07 +- 6.25 years; 82.8 % were carrying a pregnancy in the long term ( 25.4 % had an antecedent of caesarean). 71.8 % of the caesareans have been practiced in urgency. Mains indications of caesarean were: obstructed labor, uterine scar, acute fetal distress and eclampsia.
Conclusion.
In maternity hospitals studied, rougly one out of three deliveries was through caesarean delivery, indications of caesarean were : obstructed labor, uterine scar, acute fetal distress and eclampsia.
